"I come to you with only Karate, empty hands, I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor; should it be a matter of life or death, of right or wrong; then here are my weapons Karate, my empty hands."  - Ed Parker

Important Announcements

2-11-2012: Thanks to the support of friends, family, parents and students, MG Kenpo Academy has finally found a new home in Duarte, CA. We will be moving into our new 1400 sq foot training studio and finally getting out of the 11X9 garage space we were used to. I'm gonna miss the "garage days" though, which I'm sure some of you will as well. We had alot of good times in there over the last 5 years. Lot's of hard work, lots of sweat, blood & tears. I earned my black belt in there too. I'm gonna miss the hot summers because of no AC, I'm gonna miss the freezing winters because of no heat, I'm gonna miss the mosquitos in the summer and the rain in the winter. Wow, what a journey it has been. Here's to a new start and I welcome all to join us at the Grand Opening soon. Thank you everybody!

1-23-2012: Thanks to the efforts of everybody involved at the Power of American Kenpo seminar two weeks ago, we have managed to donate $1000.00 to Mr. Bob White to support his cause with the Royal Family Kids Camp. It's a great feeling to know that we can help make a difference in a childs life. Thank you everybody who made this possible.

1-23-2012: I have activated an additional online shop on our website. This shop is separate from the clothing shop you may have seen. This shop will contain products such as school patches and uniforms. For now, I only have the patches available. However I will be loading the uniforms and other items in the future. There is also a memership payment option. Click here to go to the portal

Remember, that patches are not mandatory to wear or buy, however it is cool to have them especially if you go to public events like tournaments and/or seminars. People should know what school you’re from The patches I have on hand so if anybody needs additional patches, please let me know and I’ll get them for you the same day.

1-14-2012: Congrats Mr.Gomez on your promotion to 3rd Degree Black Belt! See Promotion Video

1-11-2012: Class Schedule Change
After giving it careful consideration, I have decided to change the Little Tigers Class (4-7 years old) from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. We’re growing a bit and because of this growth I feel that the methods of teaching need to be changed in order for each student to benefit from their martial arts training. Now that we have a larger fluctuation in age groups, the current class schedule isn’t working too well anymore. So I believe that this is the best course of action. I will also be adding an adults class to Monday evenings as an informal open mat night as well as a private lesson only day on Friday evenings. So I think this will be a good thing.

The New class schedule is as follows:

Monday – 8:00pm to 10:00pm (Adult Open Mat/Workout/Technique/Sparring Night)

Tuesday – NO CLASSES IN SESSION

Wednesday - 6:30pm to 7:00pm (Little Tigers Class 4-7 years old)
7:00pm to 8:00pm (Little Dragon, Jr & Teen classes 8-12 years old)
8:00pm to 10:00pm (Adults)

Thursday - 6:30pm to 7:00pm (Little Tigers Class 4-7 years old)
7:00pm to 8:00pm (Little Dragon, Jr & Teen classes 8-12 years old)
8:00pm to 10:00pm (Adults)

Friday - 7:00pm to 10:00pm (Private Lessons Only)

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. I truly believe that with this new schedule, we will be able to accomplish more and it’ll give me a chance to focus on each student better. Right now it’s just getting too big and getting difficult to teach different levels or age groups and I feel like I’m neglecting some students and depriving them of proper training. I want to be sure each student gets the level of attention they deserve. We’ve been considered an elite school respected by many and I want to be sure that the quality of our school and the quality of teaching does not diminish due to growth.

12-21-2011: The Power of American Kenpo Seminar - Update

Mr. Rich Hale will be giving away one of his Gil Hibben Kenpo Knives, by United Cutlery. This is how it'll work. A free ticket will be given to everyone in attendance. Then an additional ticket will be given to each participant for every session they attend. At the end of the day a ticket will be drawn and that lucky person will own their own Gil Hibben Kenpo Knife. There is no cost, but as they say, you must be present to win.

12-7-2011: The MG Kenpo Academy Clothing Shop is now officially open. Click here to go to the shop or click on the link on the left navigation bar.

12-5-2011: MG Kenpo Academy along with Mr. Rich Hale & Guests will be hosting a seminar on Saturday Jan 14th, 2012. Location will be held at Arnott Kenpo Karate Studio in Pasadena California. It will be a full day of Kenpo as well as a pretty extensive list of authoritive figures in Kenpo today who will be teaching. This was supposed to start off as a small thing, but once the word got out about this event. I got a huge amount of support and we will be having some really great instructors teaching at this event, thanks to Mr. Rich Hale. The Theme of the event will be the “True Essence and Power of Kenpo”. It’s going to be a very exciting day. This will be a paid event. We will be charging $40.00 if you wish to participate (which means that you’re actually on the mat) however, if you simply wish to just watch from the sidelines, there will be a $20.00 spectator entrance fee.. I’m asking everyone to participate or even donate anything if possible. What we’re doing is also raising funds for the Royal Family Kids Camp. This camp is highly supported by Mr. Bob White whom we support every year by attending the Bob Whites Youth Invitational Tournament. The RFKC is an organization that provides a camp for children who have been abused , neglected. The purpose of this camp is to expose the children to a wide variety of fun activities, designed for their success and to build self esteem. Anyhow, the participation on the mats will be focused more for adults & older teens, but any of the younger children students are more than welcome to attend as long they have their own partner aroudn the same age. Most likely we will be partnering up at certain times and we want to be sure that we don't have to partner up an adult and child.

The location is:
Arnott Kenpo Karate Studio
915 South Fair Oaks Ave.
Pasadena, CA 91105

The individuals below have been chosen as some of the true power houses of Kenpo. Since the theme of our event is “The True Essence and Power of Kenpo”, it’s only proper to have these guys on the list. The list of instructors that have confirmed is amazing.

The List is as follows:

Rich Hale - 7th Degree Black Belt
Rick Hughes - 9th Degree Black Belt
Robert Temple -10th Dan from BKF
Carlos Beckel - 6th Degree Black Belt
Wes Idol - 6th Degree Black Belt
Bob White - 9th Degree Black Belt
Scott Montoya - 6th Degree Black Belt
Paul Dye - 9th Degree Black Belt

I now have the seminar flyer on my web site, which is somewhat interactive - meaning the list of instructors at the bottom now link to individual instructor profiles.

We are definitely going to be rocking the house. We will be starting at 9am with a lunch at 1 and then starting back at 2pm. Each instructor will be teaching for about 45-50 min each with a 10-15 min break in between. Join us, you won't be disappointed.

12-5-2011: We are now officially apart of the Ohana Kenpo Karate Association under Mr. Rich Hale. Each member of MGKA, should sign up as a member of the association. This is optional, but highly recommended if you wish to receive the full benefits of the association. Click here to go to the OKKA website to sign up and for more information.

12-4-2011: The MG Kenpo Academy club patches are almost done. Once we receive them, I’ll be distributing one patch to each member. Additional patches may be purchased for $10.00 USD. Also, our online clothing shop will be available in a few short days. In the shop, you will be able to purchase your MG Kenpo Academy t-shirts, sweaters and other clothing items. We'll keep you posted when the shop opens.

12-4-2011: We’ll possibly be adding an additional day (Monday) for classes. I’ll keep you posted about this as I work out instructor availability and schedule. It’ll most likely be at the same time as our regular classes.
